This week ContentWeb and the Job Princess are taking a look at the help and advice out there to help you get a job or a freelance gig.
I came across the Creative Agency Freelancing blog a couple of weeks ago and I am impressed by the wealth of content and advice for creative freelancers.
Set up by established grphic designer Mark Bowley, the site has loads of handy tips, whether you are setting up as a freelancer or you are looking for your next freelance gig.
You can search for jobs, download useful documents that come in handy when freelancing and there’s a useful directory of links that are industry related. I especially like the short interviews with fellow freelancers who provide their advice on going it alone.

I’ve just been having a search around the web for digital content jobs in the Uk and stumbled across this rather interesting jobs site.
It pulls in all the online jobs from Marketing Week, Creative Review, Design Week and New Media Age and from what I can see includes some rather big brand names. The service also allows you to upload your CV.
Try these job keywords to help maximise your search on the site:
- content
- digital
- web
- digital producer
- SEO
- blog
Here’s a search by the keyword ‘content’ to get you started »
You can search for freelance projects in a number of ways:
- use the keyword search option. I typed in the term ‘content’ which lists jobs in the Writing/Translation category
- By the listed categories – try IT/Web/Programming or Writing/Translation
- use specific job titles or skills that businesses are looking for.
I tried ‘web copywriter’, ‘content producer’, ‘web page content’, ‘web image editing’, ‘SEO’

If you are a freelance content professional you might want to check out this nifty little jobs board called Freelance Switch.
You have to pay $7 a month to be able to apply for positions. I’ve not used the board myself, but subscribe to the job alerts feed to keep up to date with the latest writing jobs and other content-related positions.

This website leads you to 388 government and publicly-funded organisations in the UK.
It’s called Government Jobs Direct.
Check it out and and share what you think.
Did you know the Direct.gov.uk website has its own jobs board?
Until about a month ago I didn’t even know this gem of a jobs website even existed!
My other half, like many others has been looking for work in the recession and was directed this jobs website by JobCentrePlus. I had the perception that it would be mostly local government jobs, but I was pleasantly surprised that there was quite a comprehensive list of web content jobs.
I searched using following keywords:
- web
- digital
- content
- writer
Its search engine didn’t much like the first two keywords, but ‘content’ and ‘writer’ yielded decent results.
- You are then presented with a number of job areas relating to content. You can choose a maximum of 3.
- Next you input the postcode or town/city you are looking for a job and the radius in which you are looking for work. Click on the Search button.
- This returns the results.
